Here are some suggestions for preparing for an acupuncture treatment:
These are just suggestions that i feel can help the treatment. Feel free to try them or not--the most important thing is to do what makes sense for you.
Wear comfortable (preferably loose) clothes that can be rolled or pushed up to the elbow and knee
Eat something--a small snack right before treatment, or a meal 1-2 hours before a treatment
Drink enough water before and after treatment
Avoid caffeine before treatment, or at least for a few hours before.
Wear comfortable (preferably loose) clothes that can be rolled or pushed up to the elbow and knee
- Loose clothes allow the body’s energy to circulate freely, which is especially important during acupuncture treatment. Clothes that are too tight can constrict the flow of energy.
- Many of the acupuncture points are on the arms and legs, between the elbow and the hand, and between the knee and the foot. It can be helpful to be able to access these points easily.
- But no worries, any clothes are fine! If needed, we can choose alternate point locations, or if you’re comfortable, we can remove clothing and keep you covered with a sheet or towel for warmth and privacy.
Eat something--a small snack right before treatment, or a meal 1-2 hours before a treatment
- Sometimes, if acupuncture is done on an empty stomach, it can leave you feeling light-headed or dizzy.
Drink enough water before and after treatment
- No need to drink excessive amounts of water, but being hydrated enough helps everything flow smoothly during treatment.
Avoid caffeine before treatment, or at least for a few hours before.
- So that you can relax and get the full effect of treatment
